Chicken & Raspberry Dog Treat
Did you know that your pet doesn’t just smell what you’re cooking as a collective. They smell every ingredient inside your pot. Where you see a pot of mince, a dogs nose could dissect an entire recipe ingredient by ingredient. For one thing, they posses up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compare that to the 6 million in us. The part of your pets brain that is devoted to analysing smells is proportionally speaking, 40 times greater than ours. FORTY times GREATER than ours. No wonder they drool with anticipation before you’ve even opened the fridge. Only a nose knows….
That being said, if you enjoy spoiling what is attached to that sensitive nose, why not make them a delicious home made treat that requires only TWO ingredients and is packed with health benefits and tastiness. This is a no-bake frozen treat and is the equivalent to what a human smoothie is for us. This treat blends ingredients that your dog will love, lick and love so don’t expect him to share.
The two ingredients we will be using are chicken stock and raspberries but you could replace the raspberries with just about any other dog friendly ingredient and reap the same nutritional results, eg: chicken stock and parsley (parsley is a great for combating any bad breath problems), chicken stock and spinach ( spinach contains large amounts of vitamins A, K, B & C as well as iron, antioxidants, beta-carotene and roughage which stimulate the digestive tract) so feel free to examine the pet food you buy and take special notice of the vitamins and minerals they may not be receiving a lot of and counter that imbalance by making these easy frozen treats that will pack a punch of goodness for your pet. These are so good for your pups and they are so easy to make especially if you are on a tight budget this month or things in life take an unexpected turn and you are no longer able to afford spoiling your furry friend like you’d like to. All you need is chicken stock and one other dog friendly ingredient and you are good to go. I will post a new pet-friendly recipe every Friday so, bone-apa-tite.
If you are interested in mimicking the bone mould, Amazon is so easy and so cheap. Click this link to find the bone mold here.
- One cup chicken stock ( store bought or used from left over chicken bones-up to you)
- 1 cup (150g) fresh or frozen raspberries
- In a bowel, mash up the raspberries and then pour in the chicken stock
- Mix until evenly combined and uniformed in colour
- Pour into dog bone molds, filling to the top
- Freeze overnight or for a minimum of 5 hours
- To remove, run a little cold water of the mold. this will loosen it enough to get them out
- You can store these in your freezer for up to 3 months.
If you try this recipe we would love to see the outcome. Post a pic of your fur family enjoying their home made treat.
